Why can steam traps save energy

There are many types of steam traps at present, but their working principle is to utilize the differences in height, temperature and flow rate between steam and condensate water, and achieve the opening and closing of the steam trap through various mechanisms to achieve the purpose of blocking steam and draining water.

It mainly has three energy-saving functions.

First, quickly discharge the condensate water generated in the steam-using equipment to keep the heating efficiency of the steam-using equipment at the optimal state, prevent the condensate water from remaining in the equipment, and maximize the steam space inside the equipment. This can maintain a high heating efficiency at all times. Once the steam trap fails to function fully, due to the retention of condensate water, not only is the performance of the steam-using equipment greatly affected, but sometimes it even completely paralyzes the production equipment.

Second, quickly expel the air and low-temperature condensate water inside the equipment at the beginning of startup, thereby shortening the preheating operation time. When steam is introduced, both the steam delivery pipelines and the interiors of the steam-using equipment are filled with air. If this air is not expelled, steam cannot be delivered. In addition, during the process of heating the steam conveying pipeline and steam-using equipment to the steam temperature, the initial low-temperature condensate water generated must also be quickly discharged to enable the equipment to operate normally within a short period of time. This is an important condition for improving production efficiency, especially in intermittent production scenarios. Due to the shortened preheating time, the operation time for each operation is also reduced. The output can eventually be increased due to the increased number of processing times. Previously, during the preheating operation, the bypass valve was opened first to discharge the initial air and low-temperature condensate water. Now, with the appropriate steam trap selected, not only can the initial air and low-temperature condensate water be automatically discharged, but also labor can be saved.

Third, reduce the steam consumption of the steam trap itself. The so-called steam consumption of a steam trap itself generally refers to steam leakage, which is the sum of the amount of steam required for the operation of the steam trap and the amount of heat loss.

For energy conservation, the selection of steam traps is crucial. If the wrong type is chosen, all efforts will be in vain. Viti Industry is a German valve manufacturer that has been engaged in the production of a full range of valve products represented by automatic control and regulating valves, which are mainly applied in harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, easy erosion and corrosion. W&T has new engineering personnel and production equipment to develop and produce valves according to customer requirements. It has outstanding engineering achievements in all important industrial fields and collaborates with universities and related institutions in the areas of material development, fluid engineering thermodynamics, design and production.
